Welcome to the Ethical and Trustworthy Human-Intelligent Computing (ETHIC) Lab! Our mission is to build trustworthy human–ML ecosystems in which intelligent systems and society actively learn from, influence, and co-evolve with one another toward responsible and socially beneficial outcomes.

ETHIC Lab Research Overview

PhD Students

Tian Xie Tian Xie
Tian joined OSU in Fall 2022. His research focuses on trustworthy machine learning, emphasizing long-term fairness and robustness of ML algorithms and generative models. His recent work develops fair, welfare-aware, and robust theoretical frameworks under distribution shifts, as well as safety evaluation benchmarks for large language models. Tian also enjoys exploring ancient predictive systems such as BaZi, astrology, and tarot.

    A note to prospective students

I am always looking for highly motivated students! If you are interested in joining our group, please send me an email with the following information: (1) your CV; (2) a copy of your transcripts; (3) a brief description of your background and research interests. Please start your email subject with "[Prospective PhD Student]". I apologize in advance as I may not be able to reply to every email.

If you are a B.Sc. or M.Sc. student at OSU interested in my research, please feel free to reach out. We can find a time to meet and discuss potential projects.
